Weinstein taken to hospital after transfer to New York jail.
According to Harvey Weinstein's lawyer, the former movie mogul has been admitted to the hospital for a series of medical tests after returning to New York City following the recent appeals court decision that overturned his 2020 rape conviction. Lawyer Arthur Aidala revealed that Weinstein was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan upon his arrival on Friday, after initially being sent to city jails.

"They examined him and sent him to Bellevue. It appears that he requires a great deal of physical assistance. He's facing a multitude of health issues and is undergoing various tests. His health is in shambles," Aidala shared in a statement.

Upon reaching out to the hospital for confirmation, no response was immediately received on Saturday. Meanwhile, Frank Dwyer from the New York City Department of Correction disclosed that Weinstein is still in custody at Bellevue. Thomas Mailey, a spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, added that Weinstein was handed over to the city's Department of Correction in accordance with the appeals ruling. Prior to this, Weinstein had been placed at the Mohawk Correctional Facility.

Last Thursday, the New York Court of Appeals overturned his conviction on the grounds that the trial judge allowed the jurors to be presented with a significant amount of evidence that was not directly related to the charges he faced. This resulted in the erasure of his 23-year prison sentence and a call for a retrial.

Prosecutors have stated that they plan to retry Weinstein for the charges of forcibly performing oral sex on a TV and film production assistant in 2006 and raping an aspiring actor in 2013. However, Weinstein remained in custody due to his 2022 conviction in Los Angeles for another rape, for which he was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Weinstein has been dealing with several health problems for a while now, including cardiac issues, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems. Aidala mentioned that he was informed that the doctors at Bellevue would be conducting a thorough evaluation of Weinstein before he can be sent back to the Rikers Island jail complex.

The lawyer also disclosed that he is scheduled to meet with Weinstein on Monday and plans to request the court for a retrial in September during his appearance on Wednesday in Manhattan.
