Jean has certainly made quite an impression on Kojo! It's heartwarming to see the bond that has formed between them in EastEnders. Ever since Kojo arrived in Albert Square this summer, he's been struggling to adjust to life in London. It's a far cry from his upbringing in Ghana, and it's been a real challenge for him.
Kojo's introduction to Walford was quite eventful, to say the least. His brother George Knight had discovered that he was adopted as part of a baby farming agreement in the 1960s. And then things took a dark turn when Kojo's adoptive mother, Gloria, begged her husband Eddie to do whatever it took to prevent their son from returning home. It's a heartbreaking situation for Kojo, and he's been trying to come to terms with it all.
But things have taken a more positive turn since he decided to stay at The Queen Vic and get to know his family. Last week, we saw him strike up a friendship with Jean at the laundrette. She showed him how to use the washing machines, and they ended up having a lovely chat. Jean has her own troubles, as we saw when she reported Tommy Moon to social services for abusing his mother Kat Mitchell and his brothers Bert and Ernie. But Kojo's kindness in helping her with her laundry definitely made her day a little brighter.
However, when Jean returned to collect her laundry and found that Kojo had moved her sheets into the dryer for her, she wasn't exactly pleased. Yolande Trueman was there to calm her down, but she didn't know the full story of what was troubling Jean. Jean has had a rough time lately, with her boyfriend Harvey Monroe giving money to a family that his son Aaron had been terrorizing. And to top it all off, Kat thought that Jean's ex-husband Alfie had contacted social services about her.
Later, Jean agreed to go on a "mate date" with Kojo, and she was finishing up her cleaning shift at the pub when he surprised her with flowers and an invitation. But Jean was quick to tell him that she was in a relationship with Harvey, and Kojo was taken aback and left in a hurry. Elaine Peacock reminded Jean that Kojo is neurodivergent, and that perhaps she should apologize for her reaction.
Feeling guilty, Jean rushed out of the pub and was confronted by an angry Kat, who was still blaming Alfie for the social services incident. Kat was also hoping to reunite with Tommy that day, thanks to a meeting set up by Zack Hudson, who Tommy is currently living with. But things didn't go as planned, and Jean ended up revealing to Kat that she was the one who reported Tommy.
