In the town of Brahmapur, an incident involving the killing of a leopard has been brought to the attention of the Odisha Forest Department. According to an official, two individuals have been arrested in connection with this heinous act in Ganjam district, as reported on Friday. The lifeless body of the leopard was discovered on Tuesday by villagers in Jakara village, located under the Khallikote forest range.
The accused individuals were taken into custody on Thursday night, as confirmed by Divisional Forest Officer Sunny Khokkar. Along with their arrest, various items were also seized from their home, including two horns belonging to a blackbuck, wild boar teeth, a meat axe, and other materials. Dibya Shankar Behera, Assistant Conservator of Forests for the Khallikote range, stated that these findings strongly suggest that the suspects were involved in illegal poaching of wildlife.
As Odisha's leading English daily, Orissa POST has closely followed the developments of this case. It is truly disheartening to see such disregard for the lives of innocent animals. The Odisha Forest Department is committed to protecting and preserving the wildlife in the area, and this arrest serves as a warning to those who engage in such unlawful activities.
We must all come together to prevent such atrocities and ensure the safety of our precious wildlife.
