Police Naik Natharam Bharat Kale and Police Constable Amit Suresh Jadhav have been dismissed from service due to their involvement in aiding the drug mafia Lalit Patil to escape from Sassoon Hospital. The order, issued by Additional Commissioner of Police Arvind Chawria, came into effect on Monday.
The two were appointed to provide security to the inmates in the hospital, but instead, they enabled Lalit Patil's escape. CCTV footage showed Lalit Patil following Natharam Kale to a hotel near the hospital.
Both Kale and Jadhav had previously been suspended for their involvement in other crimes. In 2014, Kale was suspended by the deputy commissioner of police from the traffic branch for his involvement in his wife's abortion at the Walchandnagar police station. Jadhav was suspended in 2022 for a crime in the Mundhwa police station, and had also been absent for 59 days without permission.
After helping Lalit Patil escape, Jadhav was observed clapping with Dattatray Doke, the driver of Vinay Aranha. Both were arrested and are now in judicial custody.
The dismissal of Kale and Jadhav, in addition to the reshuffling of the Jalna SP Tushar Doshi to the CID, has been a highlight of the police activity in Pune in recent days. The city has also recently welcomed Bagheshwar Baba for a 'Divya Durbar' in Sangamwadi.
