TV star shares story of 'awful' event that led her to quit drinking.
As we scroll through our daily lives, we often find ourselves looking for the next big thing. With the swipe of a finger, we move on to the next page, the next post, the next chapter. But have we ever stopped to think about what came before? What led us to where we are now? Home and Away star Tammin Sursok did just that as she reflected on a pivotal moment in her life that prompted her to make a major change.

In her days as Dani Sutherland on the popular Australian soap, Tammin, like many others, would often turn to alcohol while socializing with friends. But as she grew older, she started to notice a shift in her relationship with alcohol. It wasn't until she suffered a terrible migraine that she began to view alcohol in a different light. She realized that it was having a negative impact on her body and decided to make a change.

"It was an intense movie physically and emotionally...at the end of it I remember thinking, 'Oh my goodness, this film is done, I want to celebrate this wonderful experience'," Tammin shared with the Daily Mail Australia. But after having just half a glass of champagne, she woke up the next day with a migraine. It was a wake-up call for her, as she realized that alcohol was no longer working for her in a positive way.

Tammin admitted that she used to think that not drinking in Australia would make her stand out, so she kept her decision to give up alcohol to herself for a while. She also revealed that she suffers from ocular migraines, which impact her vision and speech during episodes. "When I was in my early 30s, you could go out to an event, have two on a Monday, nothing on a Tuesday, one on a Wednesday, and then two on a Friday. That was a constant thing," she said. But she realized that she was spending very little time feeling good.

After having two daughters, Phoenix and Lennon, Tammin decided to share her sobriety journey on Instagram. She opened up about how drinking had become socially acceptable for her, whether it was on a plane or after a spa day. "The process of giving up alcohol was actually a long one. I'd do 'dry January' and feel better, but then I'd start drinking again on weekends," she confessed. But eventually, she reached a point where she was done. She wanted to feel her best, be happier in the long term, and be clear-headed.

"I can honestly say, not only do I NOT miss it at all, I actually am more excited to be social and have fun, go to concerts, be with my family," Tammin shared. She also encouraged others to do what feels right for them and to be open to trying new things. "This might also be inspiration and a sign to try something new in 2021 and see how it goes!" she added.

So the next time we're mindlessly swiping through our screens, let's not forget to take a moment to reflect on the journey that brought us here. And let's also remember to make choices that truly make us happy and bring us closer to our best selves.
