TV host returns to game show after 9 years away, following partner's death.
After nearly a decade away from the spotlight, Sarah Greene is back on our TV screens hosting the new game show The Finish Line. Sarah, 65, previously worked on Blue Peter, Saturday Superstore and Going Live!, but sadly in 2014 her husband Mike Smith passed away.

This prompted Sarah to take a break from TV in order to concentrate on taking over her husband's business – an aerial filming firm called Flying TV. Sarah described the decision to take on the business as a 'big task' that took up 'a lot of my headspace'. She also told The Mirror: “Offers of TV came in but for a long time I was trying to learn this new business but also feeling too raw. Only time can help that, you know when you feel ready, when you have that energy.”

Sarah and Mike married in 1989 and she eventually did say yes to The Finish Line. The BBC series tests contestants on their general knowledge, but speed is also important as the five competitors battle it out to get round a 'race course' fastest and take home the prize fund of £5,000.

Sarah is enjoying her new role and commented on her experience: “This reminded me of how much I love working in television”. Sarah has no plans to take another break from TV and when asked if she'll be doing more programmes she told the BBC: “Well, I would like to think so, I hope so. I’m watching this space really. Once this has started going out, there might be some things going on.”

Sarah has quickly bonded with her co-host Roman Kemp, and she jokingly described herself as his 'honorary godmother'. She also revealed that Mastermind have their eye on her, but the pressure is too much for her to handle.

The show was filmed in Belfast, which has a special link to Smith who grew up in the area. Sarah believes Smith is partly responsible for her newfound relationship with Robb Gravett, who was one of his oldest friends. On the My Time Capsule podcast she said: “I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life.”

The Finish Line airs on BBC One at 4.30 pm on weekdays. Don't miss it!
