In an exciting development, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited (TSSEZL) and HHP Five Private Limited have come together to establish a groundbreaking green hydrogen and green ammonia project at TSSEZL's Gopalpur Industrial Park in Odisha. This move is set to revolutionize the green fuel sector and solidify the Industrial Park as a hub for green hydrogen and ammonia in India.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Hygenco, a pioneering company in low-cost green hydrogen production, will acquire land in Gopalpur Industrial Park to set up its green hydrogen, green ammonia, and derivatives unit. The company has ambitious plans to produce 1 Million Tonnes Per Annum from this plant in phases, with the initial phase expected to be commissioned by December 2026.
TSSEZL's Managing Director, Manikanta Naik, shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating that the total committed capacity of green hydrogen and green ammonia manufacturing at the Industrial Park is now around 2.6 MnTPA. This is a significant milestone that will not only benefit the companies involved but also contribute to the growth of the green fuel industry in India.
Naik also highlighted the efforts made by TSSEZL to create a conducive environment for its customers by providing necessary infrastructure. This includes the augmentation of power and water infrastructure, which is crucial for the green hydrogen and ammonia industries. He believes that this will further facilitate the growth of the green fuel sector.
Amit Bansal, Founder and CEO of Hygenco, expressed his excitement for the project and shared the company's strategic vision of becoming a dominant player in the green fuel sector worldwide. He mentioned that the produce from the initial phase of the plant will be exported, with advanced discussions already taking place with various clients. This will not only benefit the Indian market but also contribute to the global green fuel industry.
The green ammonia produced at this facility will be exported through the existing Gopalpur Port facility, located close to Gopalpur Industrial Park. The Utility Corridor, currently under development between GIP and Gopalpur Port, will provide a significant boost to the logistics and pipeline connectivity for the project.
It is worth noting that Hygenco has already signed several binding long-term offtakes of green hydrogen in India, including the country's first megawatt-scale plant in Hisar, Haryana. This shows the company's commitment and expertise in the field of green hydrogen production.
In the past, TSSEZL has also signed similar agreements with other manufacturers to set up green hydrogen and ammonia projects at Gopalpur Industrial Park. With this latest collaboration with Hygenco, the Industrial Park is set to become a leader in green fuel production in India. This is a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for the country.
