Tony Bennett's widow honors his love of painting, pasta, and how grateful she was to have him in her life.
The world was left shocked and saddened this week as news spread that legendary crooner Tony Bennett had died aged 96. His publicist confirmed the devastating news, explaining that he died in his hometown of New York City. Bennett's cause of death has not yet been shared, but he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016.

The beloved star left behind a wife, Susan Benedetto, 56, a teacher who he married in 2007. Speaking to People after her heartbreaking loss, she shared a photo from their honeymoon that same year. The snap captured the late singer staring out at the view while wearing his wedding suit.

"This is one of my favorite personal photos of Tony taken during our honeymoon in 2007 in Villa San Michele, in Florence," Susan said. "Tony, naturally, loved visiting his ancestral homeland, and we spent many summers in Italy over the years, and it was always a special time for us to be together, just the two of us."

Susan went on to reflect on Bennett's favourite things and what she'll miss about him. "Tony would paint all day, and then we would eat pasta, which was his favorite meal," she shared. "I love how this photo captured his thoughtful demeanor. Everyone knows Tony had heart, but he also was a wonderful soul. Benedetto, his family name, which I made my own when we married, means “the blessed one”, and I was most certainly blessed to have Tony in my life."

Susan shared a statement earlier this week, penned along with Bennett's son Danny. Taking to his official Instagram page, they wrote: ‘Thank you to all the fans, friends and colleagues of Tony’s who celebrated his life and humanity and shared their love of him and his musical legacy.’

Tributes have flooded social media over recent days, with the likes of Sir Elton John, Will Smith, Joe Bonamassa, and George Takei expressing their sorrow. Writing on Instagram, Sir Elton said: ‘So sad to hear of Tony’s passing. Without doubt the classiest singer, man, and performer you will ever see. He’s irreplaceable. I loved and adored him. Condolences to Susan, Danny and the family.’

One person who is yet to speak out is a grieving Lady Gaga, who Bennett collaborated with extensively before he died. The Bad Romance hitmaker, 37, struck up a truly adorable friendship with the star and they performed together on many occasions. Their album, Love On Sale, also won two Grammys – best engineered album, non-classical, and best traditional pop vocal album.

The world is mourning the loss of such a beloved and iconic figure. Tony Bennett will be remembered as a kind and thoughtful man, and will live on through his incredible music and legacy.
