Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan, two talented actors, recently sat down for a special interview where they caught up on their overlapping careers. Both of them are up for awards this year for their individual projects, with Timothee in A Complete Unknown and Dune: Part Two, while Saoirse starred in The Outrun and Blitz. However, they have also worked together in the past, on three different projects including Lady Bird and Little Women.
During the event hosted by the British Film Institute and Vanity Fair, Timothee shared a funny memory from their time filming Little Women. He recalled, "I also remember on Little Women, I had Beautiful Boy coming out at that time and that was basically the second 'big-ish movie' I was in, and I was having a hard time getting people on the phone to help me figure out my schedule where I was going to go." He then went on to explain his busy schedule during that time, saying, "I wanted to do a regional tour and visit places in the states that were affected by that story. I was in my trailer, and I guess I was supposed to be in the chair at a certain time and I was on the phone trying to do this thing and I get this bang on my trailer door, really intensely."
The actor couldn't help but laugh as he remembered the moment, saying, "I was thinking someone died, and I opened the door and it's Saoirse in a bald cap. She's like, 'Get your a-s in the f-king trailer right now! They're waiting for you in the hair and makeup.' And I always just love that memory." Saoirse and the audience also had a good laugh at the funny memory, while Timothee grinned mischievously.
Interestingly, Timothee and Saoirse had never met before working together on Lady Bird. Timothee had heard her name from Emery Cohen, who had worked with her on Brooklyn in 2016. He recalled, "I kept hearing this name 'Saoirse, Saoirse' and didn't put two and two together when I saw the name spelled out, because I'm an ignorant American, but then we got to work and I was just blown away immediately."
The pair's warmth and friendship were evident throughout the event. Timothee made headlines recently for his method dressing at the New York premiere of the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. He fully immersed himself in the character, sporting blonde locks, a mustache, and an oversized scarf and beanie, while remaining stoic and withdrawn as cameras flashed. Fans were surprised by the transformation, which was a near replica of an outfit Bob Dylan wore to a 2003 Sundance Film Festival screening of his film Masked and Anonymous.
This was not just a publicity stunt for Timothee, as he fully committed himself to the role of Bob Dylan. He isolated himself for three months, cutting off all contact with the outside world. He explained, "No visitors, no friends, no reps, no nothing. It sounds pretentious, but panic fueled me. I didn't want to lose a moment of discovery as the character because of my phone or any distraction, so while I was in it, that was my eternal focus."
