The Glenlee is being restored to its original condition.
The majestic tall ship Glenlee, situated on the River Clyde, has been granted £1.8 million by the National Heritage Memorial Fund.

The cash allotment will go towards inspecting and restoring the vessel's hull, decks, and rigging over the next two years.

This year, the 126-year-old boat celebrates 30 years of being in Glasgow's 'Dear Green Place'.

Glenlee is scheduled to open to the public by the end of this month, before shutting down again in the spring for more repair work.

Fiona Greer, development director at The Tall Ship Glenlee, commented: “This £1.8 million funding is a lifesaver for the preservation of our iconic Clyde-built vessel.

The tall ship stands as a symbol of the last era of sailing ships and has become a staple of the Glasgow skyline and an integral part of the city's cultural heritage.

“We are aiming to keep disruption to our visitors to a minimum, and this money will make sure all necessary work can be carried out without delay.

“We look forward to observing the ship's transformation over the next two years so that the Glenlee can continue to captivate, entertain, and teach many more people in the years to come.”
