The highly anticipated Elden Ring expansion, Shadow Of The Erdtree, is just around the corner and has already been approved by guides. FromSoftware's boss, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has shared his perspective on the use of guides in their games, as they strive to welcome new players into their world.
The Souls series and other FromSoftware titles have gained a reputation for their intense difficulty, leading many players to turn to guides for assistance with defeating bosses or locating specific items. While Elden Ring may be the most accessible in terms of difficulty, its vast open world makes guides even more valuable for exploring every inch of The Lands Between.
In anticipation of the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion, which introduces a new realm, Miyazaki spoke about the prevalence of guides in their games, stating that they are not designed with them in mind. "We understand that players may use guides, but it is not a prerequisite for our games," he explained in an interview with PC Gamer. "In fact, we aim to cater to players who prefer to play organically, without any prior knowledge."
Miyazaki goes on to describe using guides as a "valid playstyle," stating that they respect players who choose to approach the game with a guide in hand. However, he wants to make it clear that the game is not designed to favor those players. Regardless of whether players use guides or not, Shadow Of The Erdtree offers a significant challenge with new bosses and weapon types to master. Just be sure to meet all the requirements to access the DLC.
