On Friday, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao virtually inaugurated nine new medical colleges in various districts of the state. This was in line with the government's goal of setting up one such college in every district of the state.
During the event, Rao proudly spoke about the state's progress in the health sector. He mentioned that the number of medical seats in the state increased from 2,850 in 2014 to 8,515 now. This number would soon reach 10,000 with the inauguration of eight more colleges. Also, the number of hospital beds in the state rose from 17,000 to 34,000. He also mentioned that all 50,000 beds in the state would soon have oxygen facilities.
Rao also spoke about the state's health-related welfare schemes, such as the KCR Kit and nutrition kit given to pregnant women. He mentioned that the NITI Aayog's health-related rankings for the state had improved from 11th in 2014 to 3rd now. He also pointed out the declining Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate in the state.
The chief minister also directed Health Minister T Harish Rao to set up nursing colleges and institutions for paramedical personnel. He was accompanied by the health minister and senior officials on the occasion.
