Late into the night, a brothel owner in western Sydney was met with a frightening and violent encounter. Allegedly, a group of five men armed with baseball bats and a machete approached the 62-year-old man as he sat behind the reception desk at his business on Christina Road in Villawood. The incident occurred at 9:45pm, leaving the owner with facial injuries and some stolen cash. The attackers then quickly fled the scene in a small blue Holden Barina hatch.
The man was treated for his injuries and taken to Auburn Hospital for further care. Thankfully, he is currently in the process of recovery. Police suspect that this same group was also involved in a series of other break-ins and armed robberies in the surrounding area. At 7pm that same evening, they were reported to have broken into a home on Judith Street in Chester Hill, wielding their weapons and assaulting the residents before making off with stolen property in their trusty blue hatchback.
Later on, around 10:30pm, police spotted the suspects on Jamieson Lane in Fairfield East and attempted to confront them. However, this only seemed to set them off and they fled the scene once again. During this time, a 19-year-old man was caught in a nearby backyard and taken into custody for questioning at Bankstown Police Station. In a separate incident just 15 minutes later, police located the blue Holden Barina hatch parked on Malta Street. As they approached, two of the suspects were seen exiting the vehicle and running away. The driver was reportedly carrying a large machete which he discarded nearby.
A perimeter was established in the area and a 16-year-old boy was later arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station for questioning. However, three others believed to be involved in the violent spree are still at large and authorities are actively investigating to locate them. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000. It is alarming to see such brazen acts of violence and crime taking place in our community. We must work together to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods and bring those responsible to justice.
