Substitute teacher arrested for allegedly making 6th-grade students kiss while others watched.
Rasheda Rose, a substitute teacher of the North Las Vegas area, was arrested on Nov. 1 after students and faculty of Legacy Traditional School – North Valley accused her of forcing sixth-grade students to kiss each other in front of the entire class. Witnesses also reported Rose had made inappropriate comments and forced students to participate in a game of “Never Have I Ever” which included sexually explicit questions.
The allegations occurred on Oct. 10 while Rose was substituting six classes, each of around 30 students. According to the students, Rose asked them to close the blinds on the classroom door before requesting two students to come to the front of the class to kiss. The students felt uncomfortable and refused to do it, yet Rose could be heard in a video captured by another student, saying, “I want it to be where everyone can see. Imma count to five, once at five, I want yaw to share a lil peck.”

Additionally, Rose asked students to raise their hands if they were “dating” and gave them kissing as homework to be completed before the next time she came to the class, warning them “what happens in Mrs. Rose’s [sic] classroom stays in Mrs. Rose’s classroom.” She also held students back to teach them how to delete messages, hide things from their parents, and create fake social media accounts.

The mother of one of the students who was forced to kiss in the classroom expressed her intention to remove her daughter from the school as her daughter had been the subject of constant teasing and bullying since the incident. She also claimed her attempts to discuss the matter with the school’s principal went unanswered.

On Oct. 31, a lawyer claiming to represent Rose called the North Las Vegas Police Department officer assigned to the case, saying they planned to call back with plans to surrender, but never did. On Nov. 1, Rose went to the police station by herself and requested a lawyer to be present while she spoke to police. She was arrested and taken to the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8, 2024.

Police are also asking any students who may have been victimized by Rose in the past to come forward. This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of having a safe and secure learning environment in schools.
