FASHION and textile students from Gray’s School of Art at Robert Gordon University are embarking on a unique project with Braemar Castle – to create innovative, sustainable garments for a fashion show at Aberdeen Art Gallery. On 5 May, twenty first-year students will be showcasing their designs, which are linked to Braemar Castle, alongside a further 22 students from Gray’s School of Art.
Elaine Gowans, head of fashion and textiles at Gray’s School of Art, said: “We are thrilled to be exploring the potential of upcycling and re-purposing garments for a sustainable fashion range. Our students have taken the saying ‘one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure’ to heart as they have sourced and worked with a variety of materials to create cutting-edge designs. By encouraging ethical design, we are hoping to spread the message of sustainability in the carbon-heavy fashion and textile industries.”
Not only that, but the team from Gray’s School of Art will be displaying the fashion collection at the Braemar Castle reopening this autumn. As Elaine added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Aberdeen Art Gallery to host the fashion show in Aberdeen city centre, and we are looking forward to seeing the results.”
