Maragodu, Aug. 12: President of the Irisamaja, Melathanda Ramesh, opined that sports events help in building unity among the ethnic groups.

He spoke after participating in the second annual mud field sports event held at the Aimanda family's field in Maragodu village. The second annual mud field sports event was held at the field of Aimanda Rupesh Kumar under the organization of the Iri Makkad Koota and the Iri Pommakkad Koota. Speaking on the occasion, ACF of Somwarpet zone, Iri Gopal, said that by organizing the mud field sports event, today's children have got the entertainment of village life. He called on children to understand the beauty of soil by playing in the mud at least once a year. Aimanda Ponnappa, the pattadar of the Aimanda family, inaugurated the mud field sports event by firing a gun.

Later, the program was inaugurated with the traditional planting ceremony. Separate handball for men and women, tug-of-war and a 100-meter race were organized for different age groups. In the afternoon, Teeni Namme, which included special dishes of the Kakkada month, was also organized. More than 90 members of the Aimanda family, members of the Airi Makkad Koota and invited guests celebrated in the mud field. Farmer Aimanda Rupesh Kumar, who is still cultivating paddy despite many difficulties, was honored and respected. Aimanda Pushpavathi, the director of the Airisamaja, Ammananda Poonachha, and the president of the Aimanda Pommakkad Koota participated in the program.
