Sophie Ellis-Bextor's music is popular again thanks to a scene in Saltburn.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor's classic hit "Murder on the Dance Floor" is finally getting the love it deserves! The catchy bop has made its way onto the global Spotify chart with 1.428 million streams - the first time it's ever featured on the chart - thanks to its appearance in the new film Saltburn.

The song is featured in a very memorable scene where Barry Keoghan dances to it in an extremely X-rated scene. With this, the track has secured the legendary status it's always deserved. Sophie shared her excitement on Twitter, writing: 'Wow.. thank you for all the Murder love. Happy new year! Xx.'

The pop singer, 44, burst onto the scene more than 20 years ago with earworms such as Groovejet, Take Me Home, and, of course, Murder on the Dance Floor. She previously spoke to The Agency ahead of her Pyramid stage debut at Glastonbury 2023, where she reflected on her career so far.

‘I still love [Murder on the Dance Floor],’ she said. ‘I’m still good friends with all my old songs. I’m lucky, I think. I hear stories about people who don’t feel the same way but I’m still happy to sing those songs and I feel proud they’re things people associate with me.’

Sophie has been performing for over 20 years, starting with her band Theaudience in 1996, before going solo in 2000. Looking back on her career, she said: ‘In some ways the years pile up and you think, “how did that happen?” but then there are so many twists and turns and now it’s more like fun. I like that I’ve got to this point and I have history under my belt and a lot of long-term relationships with the people I’ve worked with, that feels good.’

Last year, the star made a music video for her new track Lost In The Sunshine, with director Sophie Muller, who she had first worked with 20 years ago.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor's classic hit "Murder on the Dance Floor" is a testament to her success over the past two decades, and it's clear that she still feels a lot of love for the track. We can't wait to see what she does next!
