The government of Telangana has taken action against popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, serving him a notice that prohibits him from singing songs that promote alcohol, drugs, and violence during his upcoming concert, 'Dil-Luminati', to be held in Hyderabad on Friday. In addition, Diljit has been directed to refrain from bringing children on stage during the performance, which is set to take place at GMR Arena on Airport Approach Road.
The notice, issued on November 7 by the District welfare officer of the Department of Welfare of Women and Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens in Rangareddy district, came after a complaint was filed by Professor Panditrao Dharenavar from Chandigarh. The complainant had raised concerns about Diljit's songs, which he claimed promote negative values, and urged the authorities to prevent the singer from performing such songs at the live show.
To support his complaint, Professor Dharenavar had submitted video evidence of Diljit's performance at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 26 and 27, where the singer was seen singing songs that glorify alcohol, drugs, and violence. The notice clearly stated that this action was being taken in advance to discourage the promotion of harmful content through songs in Diljit's live show.
Apart from the singer, the manager and organisers of the event have also been directed to ensure that the sound pressure level does not exceed the permissible limit. The notice referred to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization, which states that adults should not be exposed to sounds with a peak sound pressure level above 140 decibels, while for children, the limit is reduced to 120 decibels. Therefore, the authorities have made it clear that children should not be allowed on stage during the concert if the sound level is higher than 120 decibels.
Furthermore, the singer has also been reminded not to bring children on stage, as per the concert guidelines that state that children under 13 years of age are allowed to attend the show. The notice pointed out that the loud music and flashing lights used in concerts can be harmful to children and that it is the responsibility of the organisers to ensure the safety of the audience.
Meanwhile, Diljit has already arrived in Hyderabad and shared videos of his city tour on social media. In one of the videos, he can be seen taking an auto-rickshaw ride in the old city, visiting the iconic Charminar, and a few places of worship. It remains to be seen how the singer will respond to the notice and whether he will comply with the directives given by the authorities.
