In a recent statement, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi from Odisha's Balasore has called out Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his actions in the Lok Sabha. He compared Gandhi's behavior to that of a bouncer rather than a Leader of the Opposition, a prestigious position previously held by respected leaders like former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Sarangi, who was hospitalized after sustaining injuries during a scuffle in Parliament on December 19, gave an update on his health to reporters on Monday. "I am doing better now and was discharged from the hospital on December 28. However, I still need to be careful as the stitches on my head have not fully healed," he shared.
Reflecting on the incident, Sarangi explained, "It happened when we were peacefully protesting near an entry gate, holding placards to express our disapproval of the insult to B.R. Ambedkar." He further alleged, "Suddenly, Rahul Gandhi appeared with some of his party colleagues and forcefully pushed people to move ahead. It was like he was acting as a bouncer, not as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, a position held by great personalities like Vajpayee ji."
Sarangi claimed that there was enough space for Gandhi to pass through without causing any disturbance. "He pushed MP Mukesh Rajput, who was standing in front of him. Rajput ji fell on me and my head hit a stone-like object, causing the injury," he said.
When asked if Gandhi had shown any concern after the incident, Sarangi replied, "Yes, he came near me after someone informed him of what had happened. However, he quickly left without showing any genuine concern. I believe my recovery was due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath."
The incident caused an uproar in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, leading to adjournments as the Opposition demanded an apology from Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks on B.R. Ambedkar. In a show of solidarity, INDIA bloc MPs, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, dressed in blue, a color symbolizing Ambedkar, protested on the Parliament premises and called for Shah's resignation over his comments regarding the chief architect of the Constitution.
