Madikeri, Jul. 17: The state cabinet has given administrative approval to the projects costing Rs. 36.50 crore for the construction of an arch bridge near Hulugunda village in the Harangi basin and Rs. 49.90 crore for the development of the distribution canals of the left bank canal of the Harangi reservoir.
The proposal submitted by Madikeri MLA Dr. Mantar Gowda was approved and administrative approval was given in the cabinet meeting held at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
MLA Mantar Gowda had submitted a proposal to the Water Resources Department regarding these two projects.
Responding to ‘Shakti’ in this regard, MLA Mantar Gowda said that there was a need to construct a bridge in Hulugunda. When the outflow increased, a flood situation arose in this area and affected the lives of the people. The government's attention was drawn to provide a permanent solution to this. The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers acknowledged the demand and approved it.
Similarly, since the construction of the Harangi Dam, no funds have been released for its maintenance. The development of 18 canals covering a 14 km area will be possible with the proposed project. This will benefit the farmers. In the coming days, work will be done for the all-round development of the area. He said that the government is also looking after the interests of the district.
