Title deed not received even after three generations

Kudige, Jul. 17: Even after three generations, the title deed for the land where 270 families have lived is still a dream for them.

270 houses located one kilometer away on the left side of the Harangi dam are still deprived of the facilities provided by the government.

During the construction of the Harangi dam, the then Irrigation Department officials had instructed the workers there 70 years ago to build houses on the department's land and Paisari land opposite the dam and live there. Similarly, the workers are building houses on the vacant land in Harangi.

Those who have been living here for 70 years do not get government assistance even if their houses are damaged due to wind and rain. The main reason is that they do not have a title deed for the house to get any facilities.

Ten years ago, hundreds of families from Kudumangalur village had submitted a petition to the then Deputy Chairman of the State Government and the Chairman of the State Government Petition Committee through a former MLA. But so far, there has been no benefit, said Manikantha, Raghu Girish, Chaudappa, Madevaswamy, who have been living in Harangi with their families for the past 70 years.

Residents say that the title deeds of the land where we live have not been available so far because the Irrigation Department has also not provided adequate documents to the Revenue Department.

For the past 10 years, the Kudumangalur Gram Panchayat has been providing many basic amenities including roads, sewerage, drinking water system, street lights and sanitation.

If there is damage to the house due to wind and rain, there is no compensation from the Revenue Department. The system of providing houses by the Gram Panchayat to the poor in this place has also been set back.

The villagers have submitted several requests to the District Collector regarding this, but no action has been taken so far.

The residents here are facing problems. The Gram Panchayat members and villagers of this area have demanded that these be fixed.

It has not been implemented..

Speaking in this regard, Kudumangaluru Gram Panchayat President Bhaskar Nayak said that Harangi (Hulugund) village has all the basic amenities required for a village, including anganwadi, higher primary school, primary health center, post office, sub-police station, six famous temples and a cemetery. However, since the houses where people live here do not have title deeds, a situation has arisen where they have to face a lot of problems.

A team of 7 people including Prakash, Raju, Manju, Razak, Devaraju, Venkataraman and himself had met Kagodu Thimmappa, the Revenue Minister of the previous government, at his residence in Bangalore and submitted a petition regarding the problem. In response, the minister had instructed the then Deputy Commissioner Srividya to immediately transfer the land where people were living to the Revenue Department as it was a land that was not needed by the Irrigation Corporation and then take action to issue title deeds to the villagers. But he expressed his disappointment that that too did not materialize. The petition of our villagers is already in the State Petition Committee, and the government has urged the District Commissioner to examine our petition and take action to issue title deeds by instructing the District Commissioner. The District Commissioner has urged the Kushalnagar Taluk Tahsildar to examine the relevant documents and provide the opportunity to obtain title deeds as per the rules of the Revenue Department. -K.K.
