Kodava Family Hockey Tournament to Return to Ponnampet After 15 Years

Madikeri, Oct 29: The Kodava Family Hockey Tournament—renowned for its Guinness World Record and inclusion in the World Book of Records—is set to return to Ponnampet in South Kodagu after a long hiatus of approximately 15 years.

Ponnampet, a region known for its immense passion for hockey and large crowds of enthusiastic fans, had not hosted the tournament since the 'Macchamada Cup' held there in 2011. The Ajjikuttira family, who have taken on the responsibility of organizing the 27th edition of this family hockey festival, have decided to host the 2027 tournament in Ponnampet. Preparations for this prestigious event are now underway in a phased manner.

To ensure the successful organization of the festival, the Ajjikuttira family has already formed a tournament committee and held several meetings. Preliminary discussions have also taken place through meetings with a hockey academy based in Kodagu.

The committee includes MLA A.S. Ponnanna as the Patron-President, Ajjikuttira Naren Kariyappa as President, A.A. Changappa and A.T. Poovayya as Vice-Presidents, and A.B. as Secretary. Fifteen individuals, including women, are serving as committee members; this includes Poonacha, A.C. Girish as Joint Secretary, and Tej Thammayya as Treasurer.
