Yesterday afternoon, Rachael "Raygun" Gunn took to Instagram to extend an apology to comedian Steph Broadbridge. The two had been embroiled in a legal dispute over Broadbridge's parody musical, but Raygun was happy to announce that the drama has now been resolved.
It all began when Broadbridge's initial version of the parody musical was cancelled due to a legal letter from Raygun's team. However, after some discussions and a change in name, the show was able to go on. "I'm really pleased to say that we've resolved everything," Raygun stated on her Instagram post.
She went on to explain that her team had been working closely with Broadbridge's team and they were able to come to an agreement. Broadbridge will still be able to put on her show, now under a new title and with a new poster. Raygun expressed her happiness for Broadbridge and wished her all the best with the show and upcoming tour.
Raygun also addressed the issue of the $10,000 that was mentioned in the legal dispute. "There's been a lot of talk about this $10,000," she said. "That was something that was brought up early on when my lawyers were handling the situation. They had sent out letters and were waiting for a response. We were concerned that we may have to go to court, but fortunately, that was not the case."
She clarified that the $10,000 was just a potential cost for legal proceedings, but thankfully, it did not come to that. Raygun appreciated Broadbridge's efforts to clear the air and apologize in a statement released the day before.
"In our view, everything has been resolved and there will be no further legal action from our side," Raygun stated. She acknowledged that the situation had been stressful for her, but also for Broadbridge and the people involved in her show. "It was never my intention to cause any hurt or distress. This is a completely new experience for me and I want to apologize for any harm that was caused unintentionally," she added.
The parody musical, now titled "Breaking The Musical: A Completely Legal Parody Musical," will be performed in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney next year.
