The celebration of Hip-Hop is still ongoing! According to Billboard, a major event is happening in Washington D.C. in October. The National Celebration of Hip-Hop, held at West Potomac Park on the National Mall over two days - October 6th and 7th - is the perfect way to keep up the festivities.
“This free event is an honor for us to continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop," said Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav in a written statement. "I can’t wait to get on stage and do our thing.”
Many of the pioneers of Hip-Hop will be in attendance for the event. Among them are Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, DJ Hurricane, Kurtis Blow, Kid’n Play, Soulsonic Force, Roxanne Shante, CL Smooth, Melle Mel and Scorpio, The Sugarhill Gang, Peter Gunz, DJ Kevie Kev Rockwell, Mad Skillz, MC Sha-Rock, Busy Bee, Joe Ski Love, Positive K, Boogie Black, Mick Benzo, Gumbo and Donald D. However, there are still more to come - with more artists and activities to be announced in the future.
There will be plenty to do over the weekend, including guest speakers, comedians, interactive events and exhibits. Chuck D, lead lyricist of Public Enemy, said, “Hip-hop is beyond, not just a musical genre. It’s a cultural movement that has dominated art, fashion, politics, poetry, academia, film, and every corner of the world for the past 50 years. This National Celebration brings it all together in one place for the people, by the people.”
If you're interested in going, registration is open now. There will also be a special VIP event on Thursday, October 5th. VIP tickets and travel packages can be purchased on the site. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity to celebrate Hip-Hop!
