Philadelphia Police are on the hunt for Robert Edmond Davis, a 19-year-old man they believe is responsible for the heinous murder of 39-year-old journalist and LGBTQ rights activist, Joshua Kruger.
Kruger, who was shot seven times in his chest and abdomen early Monday morning, was an award-winning journalist and well-known activist within Philadelphia’s LGBTQ community.
On Friday, authorities identified Davis as the suspect wanted for Kruger’s murder. Davis is thought to have lived a few blocks away from Kruger in the south Philadelphia neighborhood of Point Breeze.
“At this time, we believe that Mr Kruger was trying to help Mr Davis, and they were acquaintances,” said Philadelphia Police Lieutenant Hamilton Marshmond. “He was just trying to help him get through life.”
The motive behind the slaying is still unknown, and authorities have not made contact with Davis since Kruger’s death. According to Lt Marshmond, Davis “appears to have been homeless at one time in his life.” However, he also noted that Davis did not appear to have been staying with Kruger when he was murdered.
Kruger himself had been homeless in the past, and served as the communications director for Philadelphia’s Office of Homeless Services. ‘Josh Kruger lifted up the most vulnerable and stigmatized people in our communities – particularly unhoused people living with addiction,’ said Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner.
Police are asking anyone who knows of Davis’ whereabouts or sees him to contact 911 immediately. The public is warned not to approach Davis, as he is considered armed and dangerous.
