Police in Canberra's north are currently on the lookout for three individuals who are suspected of robbing graves at the Gungahlin Cemetery. According to reports, a family discovered that a pink quartz stone was missing and a granite plaque had been forcibly removed from a grave site when they visited on Monday at around 4:30pm. What's even more concerning is that the family had been at the site just the day before, indicating that the alleged robbery had taken place sometime between Sunday and Monday afternoon.
Upon being notified of the incident, police visited the cemetery and were informed of three other similar occurrences that had taken place. In addition to the stolen pink quartz stone and granite plaque, a woman reported that her phone had been taken while she was visiting a family member's grave. In another instance, two gold-plated hands and a grave marker had been taken from a different grave site. And, to make matters worse, a man returned to his car to find another man attempting to break into it on Monday afternoon.
According to authorities, the man trying to break into the car was seen fleeing the scene with two other men in a white 4WD-style vehicle with an ACT registration. As a result, police are currently on the hunt for these three individuals who were present at the Gungahlin Cemetery on Monday. Additionally, they are asking anyone with information about any other suspicious incidents at the cemetery to come forward and report it.
