A tragedy has struck the small town of Cohasset as a 2-year-old boy passed away earlier today due to injuries sustained at a local auto body shop. State and local police, as well as personnel from the Norfolk District Attorney's Office, could be seen on South Main Street, with a number of police cruisers and caution tape in place.
It was around 12:40 p.m. when a man rushed from Hajj Auto Service to the nearby police station, carrying his injured grandson and seeking help. The boy was taken to South Shore Hospital shortly afterwards, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead. Back at the police station, a minivan was cordoned off in the parking lot.
Cohasset Chief of Police William Quigley told reporters that there doesn’t appear to be anything nefarious related to the death, describing the situation as a tragedy and asking locals to keep the family in their thoughts. He added that the family has been living in Cohasset for many years and that the town should come together to support them during this difficult time.
The cause of the boy's injuries appears to have been an accident, as the grandfather, a co-owner of the auto body shop, had been working with a piece of construction equipment in a back lot when the incident occurred. Authorities were seen taking photos of the area around a small front end loader with its cap roof extended in the upright position, as well as a yellow bucket on the ground. Police said the child was set to turn three in September.
