Mumbai police have made a quick arrest in a case of fraud involving the sale of fake tickets for a private garba event. Within twelve hours of receiving the complaint, four people were arrested and 1,000 fake tickets worth ₹30 lakh and other items valued at ₹5 lakh were seized. The search continues for two more accomplices.
The prime accused confessed to being inspired by a web series. The tickets were for 'Rangatri Dandiya Nights', organised by Durgadevi Navratri Utsav Samiti Borivali and the local MLA. On October 14th, some attendees complained to the organiser that they had bought 10 tickets from Karan Shah, a college friend, but the tickets turned out to be fake.
Karan Shah, 29, Darshan Gohil, 24, Paresh Neverekar, 35, and Kaveesh Patil, 24, were arrested from different locations in Virar, Kandivali and Malad. The police were able to trace them with the help of mobile location data.
This is not the first case of fraud in Mumbai. Last week, a man was booked for selling fake tea powder, showing the need for consumers to be aware of potential scams. The police are also working to ensure that such incidents are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
