Ekta Nagar: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, saying it had become “Avrodh Paksh” instead of “Virodh Paksh,” while stressing the importance of keeping the country united. He was speaking at a public gathering at the Parade Ground in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, which marks the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. “It is our misfortune that the Opposition has turned into Avrodh Paksh,” Modi said.

In an indirect reference to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits, Modi asked, “Who is secretly meeting whom in foreign countries? Which forces opposing India are extending support to whom? Who is speaking the language of India’s enemies?” He said the nation must remain united against such forces and alleged that the Opposition was trying to divide the people of the country.

“Social media is being used as a weapon, rumours are being spread, and India’s image is being tarnished,” he said. “I had said last year that we would not rest until the country was free from Naxalism and Maoism; that promise has been fulfilled. Though we have finished the Naxals, the threat of ‘dimagi Naxals’ remains very high,” Modi added.

He told the audience that India’s next major priorities include fully securing its borders, stopping infiltration and demographic changes, and moving ahead with a secular civil code. “‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and ‘Vikshit Bharat’ are our two goals,” Modi said. He added that the country is moving forward on the path laid out by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
