Paul Sinha, star of The Chase, has opened up about living with Parkinson's disease. In 2019, the same year he was named British Quiz Champion Of The Year and married his partner Oliver Levy, Paul was diagnosed with this progressive disease.
At the time, Paul admitted it was a ‘relief’ to receive the diagnosis and he was able to ‘own’ it. Last Saturday, he spoke at length about his Parkinson's in a new interview. He said that he was no longer able to dance or drive, and that he needs an extra hour to get ready to go to an event. He also said that he's become more dependent on Oliver, who helps him a lot.
Paul refused to feel sorry for himself, saying that with the pandemic and social media, he's constantly aware that other people are having harder lives than him. He also said that he does what he has to do to improve his quality of life, and doesn't consider himself brave.
Parkinson's UK estimates that around 145,000 people in the UK are living with the disease, and the NHS states that, while symptoms usually start to present themselves when people are over the age of 50, approximately one in 20 people who have the disease may experience symptoms when they’re under the age of 40. The main symptoms are slow movement, inflexible muscles and tremors, however there are a variety of other symptoms including insomnia, memory problems and depression.
Paul has been sharing regular updates on his health with his fans, and is a great example of how to remain positive and practical in difficult circumstances.
