Odisha Police is ready to enforce three new criminal laws, according to the DGP.
In the city of Bhubaneswar, the Odisha Police is gearing up to enforce three new criminal laws - the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. According to a senior police officer, these laws will be implemented from July 1, as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Odisha DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi stated, "We have received notifications from the Ministry of Home Affairs and are fully prepared to implement the new criminal laws." In preparation for this, the police force has been conducting training sessions for its officers. Sarangi mentioned that over 85% of the police personnel have already completed their training.

The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) is also being upgraded by the MHA to adapt to the changes brought about by the new laws. Sarangi assured that the police officers are being trained to submit inputs in English, as the CCTNS only accepts submissions in this language.

The DGP further added that various standard operating procedures (SOPs) and circulars are being issued to the field level police officers to ensure smooth implementation of the new laws. In addition, the state's Home department is currently conducting training programs for judicial officers and public prosecutors on these new criminal laws.

A senior official from the Home department mentioned that efforts will also be made to raise public awareness about the new laws and their provisions. This will help people better understand the changes brought about by these new Acts.
