On a hot Sunday, heatwave conditions continued to affect many parts of Odisha, with Jharsuguda being declared as the hottest place in the state by the India Meteorological Department. According to their evening bulletin, 14 places recorded temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher. Titlagarh followed closely behind Jharsuguda with a scorching 43 degrees Celsius, while Sonepur, Bhawanipatna, and Sambalpur recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius, 42 degrees Celsius, and 42 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Rourkela, Bolangir, and Sundargarh also experienced extreme heat with temperatures reaching 41.5 degrees Celsius, while Angul and Nuapada both reported 41 degrees Celsius. In contrast, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experienced relatively lower temperatures at 36.6 degrees Celsius and 35.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. The IMD has predicted hot and humid weather in several districts for Monday, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

In response to the heat, authorities in Khurda, Nayagarh, and Deogarh have declared school holidays from April 20-23, while the Cuttack district administration has ordered morning classes for schools and anganwadi centres.
