The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken a significant step towards dismantling the terror network in Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement released on Thursday, it was confirmed that the agency has attached seven properties belonging to a top terrorist from the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) organization.
According to the statement, the properties were attached on Wednesday by the NIA court in Jammu on the orders of a special court. The terrorist in question, Sartaj Ahmed Mantoo, was arrested on January 31, 2020, and was found to be in possession of arms, ammunition, and explosives. He was later charged on July 27, 2020, and is currently facing trial under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant acts.
The attached properties include a 19 Marlas and 84 Sq ft land in Kisarigam, Pulwama district. Along with five of his accomplices, Sartaj was found to be involved in transporting terrorists into the Kashmir valley, as stated by the NIA. The agency is determined to continue its efforts to eradicate terrorism in the region, and this move is a testament to their commitment.
The JeM, which was formed in 2000 by Masood Azhar, has been responsible for numerous attacks in India, including Jammu and Kashmir. It has been designated as a 'Designated Foreign Terrorist Organisation' by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1267, and its leader Masood Azhar has been declared a 'Global Terrorist' in 2019 by the UNSC.
Just a week ago, the NIA had attached six properties belonging to another top militant of JeM in Kashmir, further intensifying their crackdown on terror operatives in Jammu and Kashmir. This move by the agency is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the region and its people.
