The Maharashtra government has given administrative approval to organise a training programme under the Mission Karmayogi initiative for police officers and staff of the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. The purpose of the mission is to create motivation among the police force to serve the citizens of the state.
Mission Karmayogi, which is part of the Central government's Capacity Building Commission, is designed to provide world-class training and capacity building opportunities to all government officials. It aims to create a competent civil service rooted in Indian ethos and working in harmony for effective and efficient public service delivery.
According to sources, the Mumbai police had submitted a proposal for the design and implementation of the training. As a result of the initiative, a positive change has been observed in the government servants. In this light, the CBC had submitted detailed information about the training of selected police master trainers of the Delhi police, as well as the evaluation report, to the government on 20th July 2023.
Considering the purpose and impact of the training, the government has approved a five-day training programme for 550 master trainees at the establishment of Commissioner of Police, Mumbai. In addition, 45,000 police officers/staff will also be trained under the Mission Karmayogi initiative. The training will be conducted in a phased manner and the selection of training institutes and implementation of the programme will be done by the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai.
To support the mission, the World Bank has recently approved a loan of $47 million to India. The loan will be used to fund the Mission Karmayogi program and its capacity building solutions. This will enable the government to improve the quality of public service delivery in the state.
