A 13-year-old was sexually assaulted in Mayurbhanj, India.

In Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, a 13-year-old girl has been allegedly sexually assaulted, as reported by the police on Monday. According to the victim's family, the minor was gang raped on Sunday, but the additional superintendent of police, Deepak Kumar Gochayat, clarified that it was a case of sexual assault and not gang rape. The police acted swiftly and have already detained three suspects for their alleged involvement in the incident.

A case has been registered at the Rairangpur Town Police Station under the POCSO and BNS acts. Upon initial investigation, it was revealed that the victim had gone to a secluded area on a motorcycle with a male friend on the day of the assault. The ASP also mentioned that the victim's elder sister was present at a distance, talking to one of the accused while her sister was being abused in the nearby forest.

It was later discovered that the two girls had gone to the forest with four of the accused individuals. The three detained suspects have been identified as Sk Makbul, Sk Tipu, and Sk Omaan, while the fourth suspect, Sk Zabed, is still at large. In another incident, a woman was allegedly gang raped in the Patnagarh police station area in Bolangir district on June 8th.

The victim came forward on June 14th to report the crime, leading to the arrest of all four accused individuals. Another case was reported in the Kodinga police station area in Nabarangpur district, where the body of a 21-year-old woman was found under mysterious circumstances behind her house. The family of the victim stated that she had gone out to celebrate the Raja festival with friends, and her body was discovered the following morning.

There were visible injuries on her body, according to the family. Nabarangpur SP Kashyap Parth Jagdish visited the spot and stated that the cause of death is still unknown and will only be determined after the post-mortem report. The opposition BJD expressed concern over the safety of women and minors in the state and demanded an immediate and impartial investigation into the cases.

The party also condemned the arrest and assault of a female sarpanch in Kendrapara district. Biju Chhatra Janata Dal President Ipsita Sahoo strongly criticized the state government for its lack of responsibility towards the protection of women and children, especially during a festive time like Raja Parba. They urged for strict action to be taken against the culprits.
