After more than three years of searching, the remains of Suzanne Morphew have been found in Saguach County, Colorado. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made the announcement on Wednesday, confirming that the 49-year-old mum was positively identified to the remains found in a search conducted on September 22.
Morphew was last seen in Maysville, roughly 45 miles away from the Moffat area where the CBI uncovered her remains during an investigation. On May 10, 2020, her neighbor reported her missing after she failed to return from a bike ride. Five days later, search crews found items belonging to her near her Chaffee County home.
Her husband, Barry Morphew, shared a video asking for help finding her and in a year, he was arrested and faced multiple charges including first-degree murder. Prosecutors argued that he found out she was having an affair, killed and dumped her and fabricated a bike crash in a rural area. In April 2022, the murder charges against him were dismissed.
The CBI has not released any specific information about the state of the remains, nor have any arrests been made. The Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze emphasized that while they have found Suzanne's remains, they still have many more questions than answers.
“Although locating Suzanne’s remains is a critical component of this investigation, and for her family, we are left with many more questions than answers, and it would be a disservice to conduct a news conference at this time,” said Spezze.
He also added that the case has had a deep impact on the community and sheriff's office. “We have never stopped our investigation and will continue to follow all leads in pursuit of justice for Suzanne.”
Anyone with information around Morphew's case is asked to contact the CBI.
