Olga Sharif, the mother of Sara Sharif, has expressed her relief after the arrest of her daughter's dad and step-mum at Gatwick Airport last night. Urfan Sharif, 41, and his partner Beinash Batool, 29, were accompanied by Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, after an international manhunt was underway.
Speaking to The Sun, Olga said: “I am very happy that the police have made arrests. It is a huge relief and something I didn’t think would happen this quickly. I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders but there is still a long way to go before I feel closure. What is important now is that the police can investigate with no information being kept back or put to the side. This needs everyone to work together. I have had to wait a long time for this and I didn’t know if they would ever be able to investigate what happened to my daughter.”
Sara was found dead at her home address in Hammond Road, Woking on August 10th. Following her death, Surrey Police began an investigation which led to the arrest of the three suspects at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
The police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts remain with Olga and those affected by Sara’s death at this very difficult time. This has been an extremely fast-moving, challenging and complex enquiry and we remain absolutely committed to conducting a thorough investigation into Sara’s death.”
The arrests come as a source of comfort to Olga, who has been struggling to cope with her daughter’s death. She hopes that the investigation will give her closure and ensure that justice is served.
