The state of Tennessee was devastated by a massive storm system that passed through the US, leaving behind a trail of destruction and a tragic loss of life. In Madison, a suburb just north of Nashville, an ER2 tornado with winds exceeding 125 mph picked up a mobile home on Nesbit Lane and took with it the lives of a mother and her two-year-old son.
Witnesses recall the heartbreaking scene of Wanda McClemor and the other neighbors desperately searching for the mother and son, thinking that they had been blown away. Tragically, they were eventually found, with the mother still holding her son in her arms.
Clarksville, located about 50 miles north of Nashville, also experienced the full force of the storm and three people were killed, including 10-year-old Arlan Burnham. 23 people were injured and hospitalized, and the search continues for any others who may have been hurt.
Gallatin and Hendersonville in the northeast part of the state were also struck by a tornado, causing significant damage. Thankfully, no lives were lost in this area.
The tornadoes were part of a massive storm system that impacted more than 1,200 miles of the eastern US, from the Gulf Coast to the northern border with Canada. To help those affected by the storm, the United Way and Community Foundation are accepting donations.
