The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority at Minneapolis Public Schools. With the recent concerns regarding federal immigration enforcement activity, we understand that some families may feel uneasy about sending their children to school in person. That's why we have decided to extend our online learning accommodations until April 6 for those who wish to continue learning from home.
We have been closely monitoring the situation and have taken into consideration the fears and concerns expressed by our parents and community members. Our teachers will continue to deliver instruction both in the classroom and online, ensuring that all students have equal access to education. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our students, regardless of their immigration status.
We want to assure our families that we are constantly evaluating the situation and may resume full in-person learning before April 6 if it is deemed safe to do so. In such a case, families who have opted for temporary online learning will be given at least two weeks' notice to make necessary arrangements.
We understand that this is a challenging time for our students, families, and community as a whole. We want to acknowledge and commend the efforts of our educators and community partners in supporting our students' learning during these difficult times. Their dedication and hard work have truly shown the value and strength of public education.
Our Superintendent, Lisa Sayes-Adams, also wants to express her gratitude to all the staff and community members for their unwavering support. She acknowledges the incredible efforts put forth by our teachers and staff in creating online learning opportunities, providing essential resources and supports, and ensuring that our students have access to meals and transportation.
Furthermore, we want to assure our families that we are not the only ones taking these precautions. Other school districts in Minnesota, Ohio, and California have also decided to provide virtual learning options for families who request them. We are all in this together and will continue to work towards creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our students.
In conclusion, we want our students and families to know that their safety and well-being is our top priority. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and make decisions that prioritize the best interests of our students. Thank you for your understanding and support.
