Man who killed 4 in Memphis domestic violence spree found dead.
The Memphis Police Department has released a public statement following the manhunt of Mavis Christian Jr., who on Nov. 18 was responsible for the deaths of four female victims and the injury of a fifth. On Nov. 19, Christian Jr. was found dead in his car, having presumably taken his own life.

According to NPR, Christian Jr. committed the shootings at three different locations in Memphis. Police officers arrived on the scene of the first shooting, located on Howard Drive, at 9:22 p.m. and found a woman who had died from the gunshot wound. The other two shootings were determined to be domestic violence situations at Field Lark Drive and Warrington Road.

The Memphis Police Department released a statement expressing sympathy for the victims of Christian’s shootings. They said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless shootings on Saturday...resulting in the deaths of four innocent family members and a fifth victim critically injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their loved ones as our community grieves more lives taken by domestic violence.”

Police Chief Cerelyn “CJ” Davis also provided a statement saying, “Our department continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment towards ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents, and incidents like these shake us all to our core.”

ABC 24 reported that Christian had previously pleaded guilty to domestic violence related charges in January 2018, however, he ended up serving less than a year. The identities of the victims, as well as how they are specifically connected to Christian, have not been released.

The Memphis Police Department has credited the collaborative effort between law enforcement, the community, and the media for the success of the manhunt, stating, “Through the collaborative effort between law enforcement, the community, and the media, the suspect was located quickly without the additional loss of lives.”
