Former Arsenal exec slams Arteta, saying he has damaged the club's reputation.
Mikel Arteta has been heavily criticised by former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein for his post-match outburst following the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle. Arteta had branded the VAR decision not to rule out Anthony Gordon’s goal an ‘absolute disgrace’.

Dein, who served as vice-chairman for nearly two decades, felt that Arteta had taken his protestations too far. Speaking on talkSPORT about the incident, he said, “It wouldn’t have happened. But we’re in an emotional game and these things do happen, I think it’s unfortunate, and you live and learn.”

When asked if he would have taken Arteta aside and warned him about his conduct, Dein said, “Probably. But you don’t want to undermine the manager either. The manager in the heat of the moment – that’s what he believed in – I was at Newcastle that game, he felt aggrieved that the decisions went against him.”

Dein went on to explain that in 101 minutes of football, Arsenal only had one shot at goal and that he felt Arteta’s outburst had tarnished the club’s reputation. “In the final analysis, I think it was a bit of misdirection. There is a process in place for how they deal with these things and I just think it was a little bit unnecessary. I don’t think it did the image of the club any good.”

As a result of his outburst, Arteta has been charged by the Football Association. The Gunners boss will now have to face the consequences of his actions and learn from the experience.
