The victim of a horrific rape in a car park in Bridgwater, Somerset was bravely supported by police after they released CCTV footage of her attacker, 27-year-old Alin-Vasile Iercosan.

The video showed Iercosan jogging to keep up with the 25-year-old woman as she walked home alone in the early hours of the morning. He then dragged her off the street and raped her in a parking area.



At Taunton Crown Court on Friday, Iercosan was given a seven year and one month prison sentence, as well as an extended licence and a lifetime sexual harm prevention order.



The victim, who was a complete stranger to Iercosan, bravely spoke out in court, regaining control after the traumatic attack. She said: ‘I’m begging that today will bring me a tiny amount of closure. You will only get so many years in prison but no amount of time you get today will ever justify what you did to me.’



Detective inspector Hadley Rides praised her courage after the incident on January 28th and commended the overwhelming evidence that led to Iercosan's admission of guilt.
