The Scott County Sheriff's Office has charged James Fulgham with two counts of capital murder in the shooting deaths of Zina Williams, 36, and her 7-year-old son Zacchesus Williams. According to WJTV, the suspect could also face additional charges, including one count of arson.
On Oct. 9, firefighters responded to a fire call at 548 Wash Drive in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. Upon arriving to the scene, they discovered two bodies with gunshot wounds inside the burning home.
After being named as a suspect, Fulgham was arrested at 2:30 p.m. in Lauderdale County. The suspect was located in the woods near his home, after investigators used technology to track a wanted vehicle in connection to the homicides.
Scott County Sheriff Mike Lee told WAPT that it appeared as though Zacchesus heard the gunshot and hollered out of fear, ultimately becoming a victim himself. Investigators believe that an argument between Zina and Fulgham may have led to the shooting.
When asked about the victims' injuries, Sheriff Lee told WLBT-TV that Zina was shot once while Zacchesus was shot at least three times. Additionally, neighbors reported hearing a small altercation and what they believed to be gunshots. Lastly, they saw Fulgham leaving the residence alone.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the senseless acts of violence that occur in our society. Our thoughts are with the victims' family and friends during this difficult time.
