Man arrested for murdering woman before her wedding

In the small town of Paradip, a tragic incident has shaken the community. The local authorities have arrested a 30-year-old man for the murder of a 24-year-old woman, whose mutilated body was discovered in a farmland in Jagatsinghpur district not long ago. The accused, who goes by the name Suryakant Swain or "Bubu," was once the victim's lover and is from the same district.

According to the police, Swain was taken into custody in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, where he was running a successful business selling auto parts. He was then brought back to his home state of Odisha for further investigation. Prior to his arrest, Swain was also involved in a fishing boat business in Paradip and Astaranga, which required him to frequently visit Jagatsinghpur.

The authorities have disclosed that Swain and the victim met in 2016 through mutual friends and developed a close relationship through continuous phone conversations and in-person meetings. However, things took a turn when the victim found out that Swain was married. She began to distance herself from him, but he promised to marry her and even bought a piece of land in her name for Rs 12 lakh in 2020.

He also purchased a LIC bond worth Rs 10 lakh for her, showing his commitment to their future together. Unfortunately, Swain began to suspect that the victim was seeing someone else. This led to a police complaint being filed against him in 2024, resulting in his arrest.

However, he was later released on bail after reaching a compromise with the victim. In a fit of rage, Swain transferred the land to a relative and cut off all contact with the victim. As fate would have it, the victim was set to marry someone else on May 10.

Enraged by this, Swain allegedly hired a contract killer from Jamshedpur to carry out the brutal murder on the evening of April 20. The police have recovered the weapon used in the crime and are currently on the lookout for the hired killer. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Ankit Verma, addressed the media and confirmed that the accused has confessed to the crime.

He has also participated in a reconstruction of the crime scene. The authorities are determined to catch the hired killer and bring them to justice. This incident has left the town of Paradip in shock and mourning.

The Orissa POST, the leading English daily in the state, has been following the case closely and will continue to update the public on any new developments.
