In just 24 hours, King Charles will be arriving in Sydney, and there is one particular group of school children who are overflowing with excitement. These lucky students from Canley Heights have been hard at work perfecting a dance routine for weeks now, but they were kept in the dark about the reason behind it all. That is, until today!
When they found out that they were going to be performing for the monarch and his wife, the kids were beside themselves with joy. They couldn't contain their enthusiasm for the big show, which will be taking place at the NSW Premier's BBQ at Parramatta Park next week. One student told 9News, "I can't believe that we get to dance for the King and Queen. It's just so thrilling!" Another student chimed in, "I just want to know how he is doing, if he is well."
Despite still undergoing cancer treatment every 11 days, Charles has put it on hold for the duration of his tour. Of course, he is still being closely monitored by his doctors, who will even bring along a supply of his own blood to the event, just in case of an emergency. Safety first!
The BBQ itself will be attended by 500 guests, including local leaders like Bridget Sakr. After tragically losing her daughter Veronique and three cousins in a car crash last year, Sakr has become a driving force for change in her community. She hopes that the King and Queen can feel the passion and purpose that her Inner West and western community has for making a difference. "I hope they can resonate with that," Sakr said.
Also in attendance will be Young Australian of the Year, Dr. Daniel Nour, who has a special message for the King regarding homelessness. "If there's one thing I want to convey to the King and Queen, it's the importance of finding alternative ways to provide healthcare for those experiencing homelessness," Nour shared.
The King will arrive on Friday and stay until Wednesday of next week. During this short but jam-packed trip, he will visit the Canberra War Memorial, Parliament House, Sydney Harbour, and the Opera House. He will also make a stop at the Man O'War Steps and will even get to embark on the Admiral Hudson vessel.
The highlight of the trip, of course, will be the barbecue in Parramatta on Tuesday, where the King will join in on the festivities before departing the following day. It's sure to be an unforgettable visit for everyone involved!
