Kenny Hyslop, the talented drummer known for his work with Simple Minds and Slik, sadly passed away at the age of 73. According to reports, he had been dealing with poor health for some time before his death, though the exact cause is still unknown.
Fellow musician and former bandmate Midge Ure shared his condolences for Hyslop's family, expressing his shock and sadness upon hearing the news. He also reflected on their time together in glam rock band Slik before Hyslop joined Simple Minds for a year in 1981.
Hyslop's musical journey began in the 1970s, when he replaced drummer Matt Carins in Salvation. After a name change and Ure's transition to lead vocalist, the band became known as Slik and achieved their biggest hit with "Forever And Ever" in 1975.
Following the disbandment of Slik, Hyslop went on to play with new wave bands Zones and The Skids before joining Simple Minds. During his time with the band, he contributed to the hit song "Promised You A Miracle" and performed on their Sons and Fascination Tour.
Unfortunately, Hyslop's time with Simple Minds was short-lived due to artistic differences and he left in 1982. He then went on to form Set the Tone and the One O'Clock Gang, as well as becoming an alternative DJ. He eventually relocated to Canada with blues band Big George and the Business before returning to the UK to teach drumming.
Hyslop's passing is a loss for the music industry, but his legacy will live on through his contributions to various bands and his impact on the drumming community.
