Kaveri Jatra Mahotsava Celebrated at Balamuri

Napoklu, Oct 18: The Jatra Mahotsava (temple festival) was celebrated with great devotion and reverence on Sunday at the historically significant Sri Agastyeshwara Temple in Balamuri (Balamberi), near here, featuring a 'Maha Mangalarati' (grand ritual offering of lamps) to the River Kaveri.

Devotees took a holy dip in the sacred waters and performed special prayers. Throughout the day, rituals such as *kesha mundana* (tonsuring), *pinda pradana* (offering of ritual balls for ancestors), the holy bath in the Kaveri, and *balopat* (a traditional ritual) were conducted at the site. At 12:00 PM, the temple priest, Mahabaleshwara Bhat, and his team performed the *Maha Mangalarati* and associated rituals for the River Kaveri. Subsequently, the priests collected sacred water from the river in a vessel and, accompanied by the rhythmic beats of *chende* drums, carried it to the temple to perform an *abhisheka* (ceremonial bathing) of the deity. This was followed by a special *Maha Puja*, *Mangalarati*, and the distribution of *tirtha prasada* (consecrated offerings). A community feast (*anna santarpana*) was also organized for the devotees.

Kongiranda Sadu Thammayya, the *Takkar* (traditional trustee) and President of the Administrative Committee of the Agastyeshwara Temple, stated that this site holds great significance and is in need of further development initiatives.
