Karnataka's Home Minister states Yediyurappa could face arrest for POCSO violation, if deemed necessary.
In a recent update, Karnataka's Home Minister G Parameshwara has revealed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has issued a notice to former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, asking him to appear for questioning in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case. The CID has also stated that they may arrest Yediyurappa if deemed necessary.

According to Parameshwara, this is a procedural step and the CID will have to follow certain protocols before filing the charge-sheet on June 15. This includes recording Yediyurappa's statement and producing him for further questioning. When asked about the possibility of arrest, the Home Minister stated that it will depend on the CID's assessment and decision.

Yediyurappa, who is also a member of the BJP's parliamentary board, is currently in Delhi and is expected to join the probe upon his return. Sources close to him have confirmed this, stating that he will cooperate with the investigation.

The case against Yediyurappa was filed based on a complaint by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, who alleged that he sexually assaulted her daughter during a meeting at his residence in February this year. As per the complaint, Yediyurappa has been booked under the POCSO Act and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code.

After the local police registered the case on March 14, the Karnataka Director General of Police, Alok Mohan, transferred the case to the CID for further investigation. Sadly, the 54-year-old woman who had filed the complaint passed away last month due to lung cancer.

Yediyurappa has vehemently denied the allegations and has stated that he will fight the case legally. In April, the CID collected his voice sample after summoning him to their office. The government has also appointed Special Public Prosecutor Ashok H. Nayak to represent the CID in this case. Meanwhile, Yediyurappa has approached the court seeking to quash the FIR.
