Karnataka CM Kamal Nath announced a new scheme for farmers, prompting BJP to criticize the move.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress Leader Kamal Nath announced the launch of 'Krishak Nyay Yojana' on Wednesday in Bhopal, the state capital. The scheme is proposed to be launched if the Congress party forms the government in the state later this year, in the Assembly elections.

Addressing the media, Nath said, “The BJP has promised to double the income of the farmers of the state, but their income has only decreased. NITI Aayog has given the figures. The debt of the farmers is increasing. We will continue our announcement of waiving off the loans of the farmers if our government is formed in the state. The aim of this scheme is to reduce the input cost of the farmers in the state.”

The scheme will include waiving off the old electricity bills of the farmers and providing free electricity for pumps up to 5 horse power in the state. In addition, any cases registered against farmers during protests for their demands will also be withdrawn. The farmers will also be given continuous electricity for 12 hours.

Nath took a dig at CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and said that he remembers women and contract workers only during elections. He asked CM Chouhan to account for the announcements made in the last five years and called it a gimmick to mislead the people of Madhya Pradesh.

He further alleged that contracts are being given at 25% commission with the foundation stones being laid in the state.

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra retaliated by saying that Nath and his party have cheated and done injustice to farmers and hence they cannot talk about justice. He said that the state is already providing 92-93% subsidy to the farmers and that the Congress party only wants to fool them by making such announcements.

Mishra also said that the power cuts have decreased significantly under the tenure of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as compared to Nath and his predecessor. He asked for proof of 25% commission for contracts if Nath's words were true.

The Congress party has promised to launch free electricity scheme for farmers in Madhya Pradesh if voted to power.
