Jamshedpur: A remarkable achievement has been made by 16-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan, as she has become the youngest Indian to successfully climb Mt Everest from the Nepal side. This news was shared by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation on Thursday. The TSAF, who had supported Kaamya throughout her journey, stated that she was accompanied by her father, Commander S Karthikeyan from the Indian Navy.
According to the Western Naval Command, Kaamya has now become the second youngest girl in the world and the youngest Indian mountaineer to reach the summit of the highest peak from the Nepal side. It's truly a moment of pride as Kaamya and her father reached the summit at an impressive height of 8848 metres on May 20. This is just one of the many milestones Kaamya has achieved in her mission to conquer the highest peaks of all seven continents. Her next goal is to summit Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December, making her the youngest girl to complete the 7 summits challenge.
Kaamya, a student of Class XII at Navy Children School in Mumbai, has been passionate about mountaineering since a very young age. The Western Naval Command shared a post on Twitter congratulating her and her father for their successful summit. They also mentioned that Kaamya has completed six milestones so far and is an inspiration to young adventurers everywhere. The Indian Navy, Ministry of Defense, and HQ IDS also congratulated Kaamya on her incredible feat.
TSAF Chairman Chanakya Chaudhary also expressed his pride and admiration for Kaamya, saying that her achievement is a testament to her perseverance, meticulous preparation, and unwavering determination. He believes that she is an inspiration to all youngsters, showing that with dedication and support, even the most ambitious dreams can be turned into reality.
Kaamya's journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. She has been a recipient of the prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar, which is awarded to children for their exceptional achievements. According to the TSAF, Kaamya and her team reached Kathmandu on April 6 and after weeks of acclimatization and planning, they began their final summit climb on May 16 from the Everest Base Camp. The final push towards the summit commenced in the early hours of May 20.
Kaamya's love for the mountains started at the tender age of seven when she went on a high-altitude trek to Chandrashila Peak in 2015. The following year, she took on even tougher treks like Har-ki Dun, Kedarkantha Peak, and Roopkund Lake. In 2017, at just 12 years old, she trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, becoming the second youngest girl to achieve this feat. In 2019, she continued to push her limits and trekked to Brighu Lake and crossed the Sar Pass in Himachal Pradesh.
